Microdermabrasion is a gentle, non-invasive type of skin resurfacing that smoothes and brightens skin by removing the top layer of dead and damaged skin cells. Microdermabrasion treatments can improve the appearance of many types of surface skin issues, including dull skin tone, fine lines, uneven texture, clogged pores, scars, and sun damage. These treatments are most often performed on the face but can also benefit the skin on your hands, neck, and chest. This is a fast and effective exfoliating procedure that is typically done as an add-on to our Luksus Signature Facial.
Ideal Candidate
This is suitable for most skin tones and types, especially if you:
- Want healthier, clearer skin
- Do not have skin that is highly sensitive
- Do not have rosacea or severe acne
- Do not have an open skin wound
Procedure Technique
During the treatment, you will relax in a comfortable exam table as your skin is cleaned and prepared. Then, your esthetician will pass the microdermabrasion handpiece over your skin to gently abrade the surface with fine crystals and simultaneously vacuum away the used crystals and dead skin. Though the treatment feels odd, it should not be painful. Most patients do not need a numbing cream or local anesthesia. The microdermabrasion will be performed evenly over your chosen areas, with more care and sensitivity around the eyes. Once the treatment is complete, your skin will be lightly cleansed to remove any residue, and then a moisturizer and sunscreen, selected for your skin type, will be applied.
During your consultation, one of our experienced aestheticians will create a unique treatment plan for your specific skin concerns and cosmetic goals. Dermaplaning procedures are typically completed in our office as an outpatient procedure and are often combined during a facial or another skin care treatment. After cleaning the skin, the treatment will begin with a careful scraping of the surface of the skin with a facial blade or scalpel. The esthetician will skim the treatment area repeatedly until the needed areas have been evenly treated. The amount of time needed will vary, depending on whether part of or the entire face is being addressed. During your consultation, our esthetician will explain the process to you.
What to Expect
After your dermaplaning procedure, your skin may appear a bit pink. This is a normal reaction that will subside in the coming days. Patients will need to avoid prolonged sun exposure because the skin will be very sensitive in the days following your treatment. You can expect immediate results after the treatment as dermaplaning reveals softer, smoother skin tight away. Your skin will be radiant and soft, which makes dermaplaning a great procedure to seek out right before a formal event, wedding, or a night out. To help you care for and protect your new, youthful skin, our team will discuss a recommended skin care routine with you, including the regular application of sunscreen.
