Believe me, the tenets of wellness and health have not changed since as far back as 400 BC when Hippocrates (known as the Father of Medicine) said “Let Food Be Thy Medicine”.
Just in case you were wondering, 400 BC was about 25 centuries ago. Yep! You heard that right!
What we eat and put in our mouths on a daily basis has a lot to do with how well we will be, plain and simple, and this has not changed for centuries. Add to that the way we move our bodies and how often, and you can have a good recipe for a healthy and productive life.
In most cases, as a physician, I often do not have the time to do an in-depth education on the results of their lifestyle, rather, I am tasked at that moment to do the best I can to keep that individual as functional as possible using medications and occasionally, expensive procedures.
Here’s the bottom line. Food plays a major role in our lives, our health and our wellness. In a lot of cases, food is comfort, pleasure, joy and rightfully so. I am not saying we should not enjoy food. What I am saying is that we should be mindful of the food choices we make on a daily basis.
For the record, this is not easy and definitely not for the fainthearted. It is a daily struggle and one I am determined to win. I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t always make the best food choices but regardless of how yesterday went, win or fail, today, I resolve to make better choices.
You see what I did?
If you fall off the bandwagon today, just get back on it tomorrow. It’s OK! Don’t beat yourself over the head about it. Try however not to just keep going and throw all your wins and gains out the window.
This is where accountability comes in. If you’re going to win this food tug of war, you’re going to need a few people on your side of the rope. You can’t do this alone. Ask people around you and see how many people did it alone. Not many, I can assure you.
It is best to have people that can be there to support you and most importantly understand your struggle. These people don’t have to be perfect by the way. The only criteria is that they have to be human and have a heartbeat, lol. In fact, I have some people I can loan you.
No, seriously. Our weight loss program is built around this accountability premise and that is what makes our clients/ patients succeed on their weight loss journey.
If you need an accountability partner to help you with staying well, eating better, moving purposefully and staying out of the sick care network as long as you can, we can be reached at 225-384-5378.
If you need other practitioners that are not in my wellness spa, I have a network of other people I can share with you or refer you to.
For now, do these three things…think of using Food as Medicine, manage your stress level and move often as in use Exercise as Medicine, and you would’ve won most of the battle.
Then go out and crush this sport we call LIFE!!
Stay well!
